About Us

WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2023, the Arjun Gupta Foundation (AGF) was created to honour a beloved son, brother, and friend. One of Arjun’s primary passions in life was to help others. Undeniably loyal, brilliant, kind-hearted, soft spoken, funny, selfless, and generous beyond belief, his kindness was felt by everyone who had the opportunity to meet him. Arjun had immense pride for his family and his many cousins, who all meant the world to him.

In keeping with Arjun’s nature of giving and excellence in sport, the Arjun Gupta Foundation will provide philanthropic support across the following pillars of focus:

  • Athletics - provide funding to elite athletes in pursuit of international excellence.
  • Employment - facilitate opportunities to those with physical/mental constraints.
  • Academics - provide scholarships and funding to students in need.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Arjun Gupta Foundation’s mission is to fulfill Arjun’s wishes of providing opportunities to those looking to further themselves athletically, academically, and professionally.

ABOUT ARJUN

Arjun started playing squash at the young age of 7 at the Granite Club in Toronto, where his father, Ajay, introduced him to the sport. He obtained his pre and high schooling at the Bayview Glen School in Toronto, where his core values were fostered, and his academic and athletic interests first developed. His prolific squash career really took off when he won the Boys U13 Canadian Junior Championship in 2004, under the guidance of coach Jamie Nicholls.

He followed this up with the Boys U15 US Junior Open in 2005 and the 2008 U19 Ontario Championships while being coached by Mike Way. Later that year, his athletic prowess was demonstrated on the global stage. As a member of Team Canada, Arjun medaled at the Pan American Junior Championships in Lima, Peru.

Later that year, his athletic prowess was demonstrated on a global scale. As a member of Team Canada, Arjun medaled at the Pan American Junior Championships in Lima, Peru.

With training from Jonathan Power, Arjun went on to help Canada achieve its best historical finish at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Quito, Ecuador, alongside teammates Nicholas Sachvie, Andrew Schnell, Tyler Osborne, and Coach Jonathan Hill, emerging victorious in the deciding match against England to earn the Bronze Medal. Arjun then starred for Cornell University, where the team peaked with a 4th place finish at the 2011 NCAA varsity squash championships.

After his time in the US, graduating from both Cornell University and Brooklyn Law School, Arjun returned to Canada and continued to dominate on the squash court, taking first place in the 2018 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships with partner Stephanie Edmison and in the 2018 Ontario Open Doubles Title with Will Mariani. In 2019, Arjun partnered with his brother Amar to earn the Bronze Medal at the Canadian Doubles Championship.

During this period, Arjun could be found mentoring the next generation of juniors with coach Jim Paton at the Granite Club, both on and off the court. Arjun was part of one of the most decorated cohorts in Canadian junior squash history, achieving excellence on the court while prioritizing his friendships, family, and the community that makes our sport unique and special.

Given the sport of squash was one of the most important aspects of Arjun’s life, there’s nothing more he would have wanted than to support the next generation of talent on and off the court.
